Dr. Prakash Chandra Lohani is a Nepalese politician, economist, and co-president and head of the parliamentary department of Rastriya Janashakti Party (RJP).

He has served as a Minister of Finance, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Labor & Transportation, and Minister of Housing & Physical Planning in governments formed during the Panchayat era and in governments formed after the restoration of multi-party democracy.

Dr. Lohani was appointed Minister of Finance in 1987 and 2003. During his tenure as the Finance Minister, for the first time in Nepal, he initiated the process of financial liberalization by introducing policies in favor of privatization of public enterprises. Growth in Nepal's financial market, especially the emergence of banking sectors, financial institutions can be attributed to the policies enacted by him during his tenure as a finance minister. Nepal's first joint venture backed bank, Indosuez bank (now Nepal investment bank), was established during his tenure.

Dr. Lohani has a keen interest in finance and economics. He has shared his ideas and views at various national and international forums such Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars in Washington DC, (chairman) 41st session of the ESCAP in Bangkok and (chairman) Nepal Aid Group meeting in 2004. Dr. Lohani has also published papers in prestigious journals like the University of Chicago Journal Of Political Economy.

He was a Fulbright scholar who taught as an assistant professor of finance at the California State University, Northridge, California, USA (1968-1969). Dr. Lohani has a MBA degree from Indiana University and Phd from University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).

Dev Man Hirachan

Mr. Dev Man Hirachan was elected to the President of Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) for a 2-year term in October 2009.

Mr. Hirachan was born in Pokhara, did his graduate studies in radiology from Japan University and has been working with Nozaki Hospital, Osaka in Japan for last 10 years. He runs several travel agencies in Kathmandu and Japan that help exchange visitors between the two countries. He leads the Nepal Future Thinking Association, Japan, the Educational and Social Development Center (ESODEC), Japan and the Educational and Social Development Center (ESODEC), Nepal.

He started his business in February 2009 after leaving Bill Bass where he was the Design Director. Prior to Bill Bass, he worked with Cynthia Rowley, Donna Karan and Manish Arora. Balram Chainrai

Mr. Balram Chainrai is a Hong Kong based businessman who owns English Premier League club Portsmouth Football Club. He is originally from Nepal and holds a British Passport.

Chainrai is said to have made his fortune distributing electronic products and mobile phones, The Times—a leading British newspaper—reported on Friday. “His main company, Hornington, was founded in 1984 to make and rade electronics and toys, distribute computers and related accessories and to provide funding to other business projects,” the news report said.

According to The Times, Hornington owns a string of fitness chains in Hong Kong and also has investments in Australia and Eastern Europe. Last year, the company claimed to have an annual turn over of £260 million.

Chainrai first came to the attention of the UK business press about six or seven years ago, when his property firm snapped up a number of industrial units around UK, the news report added.

Dr. Tilak is a former Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB). He was at the helm of NRB from January 2001 to January 2005. He holds a Ph.D in Management and Masters in Economics and Agriculture. He writes regularly on daily vernaculars like The Kathmandu Post . Dr Rawal has also authored a book titled Financial Sector Reform in Nepal. He was born in 1949.

Mr. Rudra Pandey co-founded D2Hawkeye with Dr. Chris Kryder which was purchased by Verisk Analytics in 2009. He is now the Chief Operating Officer of the subsidiary, Verisk Health.

He started his career as a business systems engineer and a database architect. He did extensive consulting with prestigious financial institutions, such as the World Bank, and with large health care organizations. At Fleet Bank, now Bank of America, he led a major business systems reengineering initiative which was an important component of their successful strategic acquisitions.

Prior to founding D2Hawkeye, Rudra founded the IT Experts Group in Kathmandu, Nepal. In three years this company grew from three to over forty systems engineers. It later merged with D2Hawkeye to become D2HawkeyeServices, the largest software company in Nepal.

Rudra holds a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Economics from Northeastern University, Boston.

He is a son of a farmer with six siblings. He had a successful banking career after completing his university education. He started Bhat-Bhateni cold store in 1984 with his wife and went full time in 1992 following an expansion to a two floor (3,000 sq. ft.) supermarket. It has since become two leading supermarket and departmental stores in Kathmandu (timeline of the company) serving more than 10,000 customers daily.

Dr Surya Subedi is Professor of International Law at the University of Leeds and a practising barrister in England. He has wide-ranging experience of advisory and advocacy work in several jurisdictions in public international law (broadly construed), international investment law, World Trade Organization law, international investment/commercial arbitration, and human rights law and has published widely in these areas. He was in 2004 appointed by the World Trade Organization to serve as a Member of the roster of Panellists of the WTO Dispute Settlement System. He has advised a number of countries including Britain, the Netherlands, Indonesia, Vietnam, Nepal, and Laos on various international legal matters and represented and advised three major public utility companies in two developing countries in their disputes with multinational companies.

Prior to joining the Bar of England, he was a Consultant on international legal matters to Mishcon de Reya Solicitors in London. He originally was admitted to the Bar of Nepal in 1981 and practised there both as an Advocate and as a government lawyer during which he served as legal adviser to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and to the Ministry of Commerce and Under-Secretary in the Ministry of Law and Justice. He has worked at the UN in New York as a Nepalese delegate.

He has been Professor of International Law since 1999 - first at the University of Hull and since 2004 at the University of Leeds. He is one of those rare academics who rose from a Lecturer to Professor in British academia within a matter of mere six years. He also is one of those rare lawyers who has received royal honours from the monarchs of two countries for his services to international law: Her Majesty the Queen of the UK appointed him an OBE - Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire - in 2004 and His late Majesty King Birendra of Nepal honoured him by the Order of Suprabal Gorkha Daxinbahu in 1998.

Alok K. Bohara

Dr. Alok K. Bohara is a Full Professor of Economics and the founder of the Nepal Study Center at the University of New Mexico. He also has a Masters degree in Statistics and taught at Tribhuvan University, Nepal for three years before coming to the US. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Colorado (Boulder) in economics (1986). He has published close to eighty peer-reviewed articles in various national and international journals, and has worked on projects funded by the National Science Foundation. His research interest includes topics such as, health, environmental economics, development issues, political economy, causes and consequences of conflict, good governance, and socio-economic change.

Professor Bohara has collaborated with many scholars, both from the UNM and outside, to establish a research center at UNM, the Nepal Study Center. This center, with a focus on South Asia and the Himalayan region, deals with the policy research issues related to climate change, health, poverty, pollution, water, bio-diversity, tele-health, eco-monitoring, and sustainability living. Bijaya N Bhattarai

Mr. Bijaya N Bhattarai has been governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) since January 2005. His term expires at the end of January 2010.

He joined NRB in 1972 as an Officer. He served as Executive Director in various departments of the bank before becoming Deputy Governor (2000-05) with responsibility to supervise, among others, the Bank's Microfinance Department. He has also served as Chairman of th Rural Self-Reliance Fund, BoD, Poverty Alleviation Fund and BoD of Agricultural Development Bank of Nepal.

Mr Bhattarai was suspended from his post after the Commission for Investigation (CIAA) filed a case in June 2007 alleging him of misappropriating over 20 million rupees in the World Bank funded financial sector reform project. After protracted trail the Supreme Court acquitted him of corruption charges and re-instated as Governor on 26 July, 2009.
