Bishwambher Pyakuryal

Professor Bishwambher Pyakuryal is a Professor of Economics at Tribhuvan University, Nepal since last 35 years. He holds masters and doctoral degrees in Economics from TU; a Masters degree in International Affairs from Ohio University, USA and post-doctorate research in Economics from the University of Maryland at College Park, USA.

A Professional Associate at the East West Center, Hawaii, a Senior Fulbright Scholar in the US, a Scholar-in-Residence of the Rockefeller Foundation in Italy, a Visiting Scholar at IFPRI in Washington, D.C., a member of advisory panel of Center for Trade and Development (CENTAD), New Delhi, a Fellow of South Asian Network for Development and Environmental Economics (SANDEE), and Commissioner of the Independent South Asian Commission on Poverty Alleviation, SAARC, and member of National Development Council, NPC. Prof. Pyakuryal is also the member of the Governing Body of Nepal Rastra Bank. Besides being the advisor of Nepal’s private sector umbrella organizations (FNCCI, Chamber of Commerce and CNI), Professor Pyakuryal has also been the Chairman of High Level Public Expenditure Commission of the government of Nepal.

Widely traveled Prof. Pyakuryal has worked as an international consultant for dozens of global organizations such as; the World Bank, IFC, ADB, UNDP, UNCTAD, UNFPA, ESCAP, IUCN, IPPF, WHO, CIDA, ICEG, EEC, Asia Foundation; IRIS Center, U.S.A; UNAPCAEM, Beijing; DFID; SDC; and FAO.

Professor Pyakuryal has written co-authored and edited ten books and published research articles, technical papers in accredited national and international journals and in various UN publications.
